    The Golden-Sand Beaches of Lanzarote

6 verified beaches of golden sand in Lanzarote — the calmer, south-facing exception to the black-sand norm, with swimming notes for each.

Curated by the Beach Atlas team · Updated July 2026

On most of the Canaries the sand runs black, but Lanzarote keeps some of the archipelago's golden exceptions. This guide gathers every beach on Lanzarote that our verified inventory records as golden-sand — the paler, usually calmer shores that sit on the island's sheltered coasts. Browse the full Lanzarote beach list to compare them with the island's darker beaches.

This is an honesty-first list: a beach appears only when its own description records golden sand, and where the evidence supports it we note sand that was imported or wind-blown rather than local. Golden beaches tend to gather on the south- and east-facing coasts that sit in the lee of the northeast trade winds, which is also why they are often the gentler swims for families. For the black-sand norm and the wider picture, see the best Canary beaches and our other beach guides.

Why Lanzarote has golden sand at all

In an archipelago built from black lava, golden sand is the exception — and on Lanzarote it turns up where the coast faces south or east, in the lee of the northeast trade winds, or where lighter sand has been blown in or imported. Those same sheltered aspects tend to make these the calmer, shallower beaches, better for families than the swell-exposed north and west. Compare them against the island's darker, wilder shores on the full Lanzarote beach list, or widen out to the best Canary beaches.
