Everything you need to know about finding Canary Islands beaches

Beaches of the Canaries is a comprehensive directory that helps you find the perfect Canary Islands beach using natural language search. Describe what you're looking for in plain language (like "calm golden-sand beach with sunbeds in Fuerteventura") and we'll match you with beaches that fit. Our database holds detailed, verified information about sand colour, amenities, conditions and accessibility across all eight islands.
Several ways: (1) natural language in the search bar — e.g. "organised beach with parking and a chiringuito"; (2) browse by island on our Areas page; (3) use the interactive map to explore beaches geographically; or (4) apply filters for Blue Flag certification, wave conditions, sand type, parking and amenities.
An organised beach in the Canaries has commercial amenities — sunbeds and parasols for hire, lifeguards in season, showers, and often a chiringuito (beach bar) or restaurants. Wild or unspoilt beaches are more natural and undeveloped, with minimal or no facilities. Organised beaches cluster on the developed south and east coasts; the wilder north and the smaller islands hold most of the undeveloped ones.
Blue Flag is an international eco-certification awarded annually by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) for water quality, environmental management, safety and visitor information. Spain consistently leads the world by Blue Flag count and the Canary Islands hold dozens. We show the Blue Flag badge on beaches that currently hold it; certification is reviewed yearly and can change between seasons.
Every beach entry includes a "verified_at" date showing when it was last checked. Our data comes from multiple sources — official tourism boards, on-site information, mapping data and user feedback — and we display freshness timestamps on each beach page. If you spot something outdated or incorrect, please tell us so we can verify and update it.
Yes — use the "Near Me" feature to sort beaches by distance from where you are. It asks for location permission and is especially handy once you're on an island and want the closest options. We only use your location when you explicitly enable it, and we never store or share it.
Four levels: (1) No Parking — walk in or use public transport; (2) Roadside Parking — limited spaces along the road; (3) Small Parking Lot — a dedicated area for roughly 20–50 cars; and (4) Large Parking Lot — extensive facilities for 50+ vehicles. Popular Canary beaches fill early in peak season and on Sundays, so aim to arrive in the morning.
We rate conditions as Calm (minimal waves, ideal for young families), Moderate (some waves, fine for most swimmers), Wavy (stronger waves), and Surfable (consistent waves for surfing or bodyboarding). The Canaries face the open Atlantic, so the exposed north and west coasts are far more powerful than the sheltered south and east — and conditions shift with the trade winds, so check the daily forecast.
We cover all eight inhabited Canary Islands — Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and La Graciosa — and coverage keeps expanding. Browse the Areas page to see each island and how many beaches we've verified there.
Absolutely. If you know a beach that should be here, email us at info@beachesofcanaries.com with the name, island, location and any details (amenities, access, special features) and we'll research and add it with proper verification.
No separate download needed — we're a mobile-optimised web app that works in your browser on phones and tablets. Bookmark beachesofcanaries.com to your home screen for quick access. The mobile experience is built for touch, fast loading and offline support via our service worker.
We offer partnership integrations for accommodation providers, tour operators and travel services — embed our beach finder, share pre-filtered search links with guests, or use QR codes for lobby displays, with UTM tracking to measure engagement. Email info@beachesofcanaries.com for partner integration and API access details.
When we show recommendations, we explain exactly why each beach matches your search — e.g. for "calm golden-sand beach with parking" you'll see a summary like "Showing 9 beaches: golden sand (all), calm waters (all), parking available (all)." Results come from verified data, not hidden algorithms or paid placements.
Yes, where available — wheelchair access, accessible toilets, beach wheelchairs (designed for sand and water), and paved pathways. Several Canary resort beaches are among Spain's best-equipped for accessible bathing. This data is still expanding; if you have accessibility details about a beach, please share them at info@beachesofcanaries.com.
