    The Best Beaches in Lanzarote

12 standout Lanzarote beaches, from the calm family bays of Costa Teguise to the black-sand crater of Los Clicos on the volcanic west — grouped by coast, with access and family notes.

Curated by the Beach Atlas team · Updated July 2026

Lanzarote wears its volcanic origins openly, and its beaches range from calm resort bays to black-sand craters. The east coast, around Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen, holds the sheltered, family-friendly sand, from the breakwater-calmed Playa del Jablillo to the windsurfing waters of Playa de las Cucharas. The west is raw and dramatic, where the black volcanic sand of Playa de los Clicos sits beside a bright green lagoon. The rugged north is wilder still. Browse every verified beach on the island in Lanzarote.

This is a curated best-of rather than the full list — pick a coast below, then check each beach page for access and sea-state before you go. A rental car reaches nearly all of them, and the west and north in particular are worth the drive. For hand-picked sets across all the islands, see our best beaches collection.

Costa Teguise and the sheltered east

The east coast is Lanzarote's calm, family-friendly side. In Costa Teguise, Playa del Jablillo is a small sandy beach protected by breakwaters and rock formations into clear, gentle water ideal for children, while Playa Flamingo and Playa del Pueblo offer similarly sheltered, easy-swimming bays lined with loungers. For something more active, Playa de las Cucharas is a golden-sand cove and one of the island's prime windsurfing and kitesurfing spots, thanks to reliable trade winds. Further south in Puerto del Carmen, Playa de los Pocillos is a long sheltered strand with calm, gentle water and an easy promenade behind it.

The volcanic west: Los Clicos and Timanfaya

The west coast shows off Lanzarote's fire-forged landscape. Playa de los Clicos is a striking black-sand beach set inside a volcanic crater beside the vivid green lagoon of Charco de los Clicos, a place for sightseeing more than swimming, which is often restricted here. Within the Timanfaya area, Playa Montaña Bermeja is a remote black-sand beach with consistent Atlantic waves for experienced swimmers and surfers, and further along the exposed shore Playa de los Boluditos and Caleta Larga are wild, dark-sand spots where rough surf and currents make swimming hazardous.

    The rugged north

The north coast is the island at its most untamed. Caleta del Mariscadero is a quiet northwest cove open to the Atlantic, with moderate to rough water and no facilities beyond roadside parking. Near the village of Órzola, Caleta de Caballo is a small dark-sand cove where the waves can turn hazardous, and on the northeast coast Playa Teneza draws surfers and bodyboarders to its wind-swept, natural surroundings.
